Coach Trip - Legal London
with Banstead Coaches and City and Village Tours
PLACES ARE STILL AVAILABLE FOR BOTH DAYS

Midway between royalty at Westminster and commerce in the City, medieval lawyers found a quiet niche in which to practise. They're still there!

After morning coffee on arrival [about 10.30 am] we set off on foot to trace the history and fascinating practices of English law in an area of London that remains hidden to most visitors. We visit Lincoln's Inn [where no-one should ask for whom the bell tolls], Staple Inn where wool was weighed and taxed before the Great Fire, and Carey Street, former home of the Bankruptcy Courts. After a one-course pub lunch we'll visit the Royal Courts of Justice, otherwise known as the High Court, and explore Inner and Middle Temple where Rumpole of the Bailey had his chambers. It was in these atmospheric cobbled lanes that the BBC filmed the barristers' drama 'Silk'.We go inside the spectacular round church of the Knights Templar to see the life-size stone effigies of the fighting monks.

There'll be time to buy tea on Fleet Street before heading out of London at about 4.15/4.30 pm.

NB This tour makes use of Vox Wireless Tour headsets. You wear a lightweight receiver on a lanyard and are given a set of disposable headphones similar to what you'd get on a plane [for those who use hearing aids there are special, over-ear headphones]. The sound is crystal clear so you'll never miss a word of the Blue Badge Guide talking to you live [this is not a taped commentary].

Venue

Meet at 8.30 am outside Banstead Library in the Horseshoe, returning from London at 4.30 pm, to arrive back in Banstead at about 6.30 pm.
