ZRI - Zum Roten Igel (At the Sign of the Red Hedgehog)
Brahms and the Gypsy

The Red Hedgehog was a tavern in Old Vienna, over the years a favourite haunt of Schubert, Brahms and Schoenberg, where bands played gypsy and klezmer music late into the night.

ZRI premièred their ‘Brahms and the Gypsy’ programme in 2011, since when they have performed at over thirty festivals and major concert venues. Their brilliantly inventive reimagining of the Brahms Clarinet Quintet for an ensemble of clarinet, violin, cello, accordion and santouri [a kind of cimbalom], interleaves familiar Brahms with the high-energy klezmer and gypsy music which inspired him.

Expect a wonderfully unlikely but intoxicating mix of styles! This concert is kindly sponsored by Specsavers Banstead
