A History of Art in Five Symbols - Presented by The Arts Society Chipstead

The Arts Society Chipstead

Falcons, Sunflowers, Dogs, Fountains and Skulls Lecture by Matthew Wilson

Art speaks in a complex language of symbols, where a plant, animal or object has a specific metaphorical meaning. Where do these meanings come from, how have they evolved and what do they tell us about the cultures they come from?

Focussing on falcons, sunflowers, dogs, fountains and skulls, Matthew Wilson, an Arts Society lecturer with a special interest in iconography, will examine their backstories and provide a unique perspective on global history.
